FAQ

Guaranteed compatibility

Our compatible cartridges are selected and tested to work with the printers for which they are indicated. We closely monitor chip updates to ensure constant compatibility with current printer models. Each product is chosen to deliver sharp printing and stable performance, while reducing printing costs. You can therefore install your cartridge with confidence.

Are compatible cartridges reliable?

Yes, provided you choose your supplier carefully. Not all compatible cartridges are equal, and quality can vary from one manufacturer to another. For over 13 years, we have been selecting compatible cartridges renowned for their reliability and consistency, to provide sharp printing, performance comparable to original cartridges, and stable compatibility with the printers for which they are designed.

By choosing Vert Cartouche, you benefit from a selection of premium compatible cartridges, chosen to offer a reliable alternative to original cartridges, while maintaining an advantageous cost per page.

How do I find the right cartridge for my printer?

The first thing to do is to check the exact model of your printer. This is usually indicated on the front or top of the device. For example: Brother MFC-L2710DW, HP LaserJet Pro M404dn or Canon MF244dw.

Once the model is identified, it becomes simpler to find the corresponding compatible cartridge. Each printer uses a specific cartridge code, such as TN760, HP 83A or LC75.

It sometimes happens that several numbers are indicated or that different formats exist for the same cartridge, which can seem confusing at first glance. In this case, the exact printer model remains the simplest reference to confirm the compatible cartridge. For example, a Brother MFC-L2710DW uses a TN760 cartridge, while an HP LaserJet Pro M404dn uses an HP 58A cartridge or the high-yield version 58X.

What is the difference between a toner cartridge and a printer drum?

The toner cartridge contains the powder used to print documents. This is usually the part that is replaced most often when the printer starts to run out of toner.

The printer drum, on the other hand, is a separate component that transfers toner to the paper during the printing process. On some printers, the drum is integrated into the toner cartridge, while on other models — particularly several Brother printers — it is a separate part.

The drum generally lasts longer than a toner cartridge and often needs to be replaced after three to four cartridges, depending on the printer model.

To ensure optimal operation, it is generally recommended to use a drum and a cartridge from the same compatible manufacturer, to ensure good compatibility between the two components. This is why several customers choose to replace the drum at the same time they order their new cartridges.

Messages that may appear during cartridge installation

Some printers may display a message when installing a compatible cartridge. These messages are usually informational and printing can continue normally. Here are the most frequent situations and quick solutions.

Cartridge not recognized: possible causes and solutions

You install a new cartridge and the printer displays "Cartridge not recognized" or "Incompatible cartridge"? This is common, with both original and compatible models.
The good news: in most cases, a few simple steps are enough to solve the problem.

Possible causes
• Cartridge incorrectly installed (poor seating or wrong reference)
• Dirty electronic contacts (dust or dried ink on the chip or in the slot)
• Firmware update blocking certain compatible cartridges
• Empty or defective cartridge
• Manufacturer protections limiting the use of unofficial cartridges

HP+ Note : HP+ models (often identified by an "e" at the end, e.g. 8030e) only accept original HP cartridges.

Quick troubleshooting

1. Check installation: turn off the printer, remove the cartridge, verify the exact reference, firmly reinsert until it clicks, turn it back on and test.

2. Clean contacts: turn off the printer, remove the cartridge, clean the gold contacts (cartridge and printer) with a dry cloth or cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol, let dry for 2 minutes, reinsert.

3. Reset the printer: remove all cartridges, turn off and unplug for 10 to 15 minutes, turn on without cartridges, insert cartridges one by one while testing.

4. Disable automatic updates: HP → Settings > Updates > disable automatic; Epson → Epson Software Updater > disable automatic; Canon/Brother → printer utility. If a recent update causes the blockage, check if a rollback to the previous version is possible.

5. Cross-test: try another new or working cartridge. If it works, the first one is defective; if nothing is recognized, there may be a printer problem.

Frequently asked questions related to installation

Why does my printer reject compatibles?
Often due to firmware updates or manufacturer protections. Disable auto-updates and use quality compatibles.

How to avoid blockages?
Disable automatic updates, keep contacts clean, and install the correct reference.

My cartridge is recognized but doesn't print.
Perform a print head cleaning. If the ink is dry, place the nozzle on a slightly damp cloth for a few minutes, then try again.

Cartridge indicated empty even though it's new.
Remove/reinsert to force detection. On some models, the level remains unreliable with compatibles; continue printing if the option is offered.
